Best answer:
Answer by Blaze
4.00 – .50 = 3.50 (the amount of profit he makes each time)
So
1000/3.50 = 285.71
So about 286 cards

1000/3.50 = 286 items
$4.00 – $0.50 = $3.50
$1000 / $3.50 = 285.71
Therefore 285 cards must be laminated and sold before the owner makes a profit. (She makes a profit of $1.015 on the 286th card, $3.50 on the rest)
He makes 3.50 per item, because it costs .50 and sells for 4.00 (4.00 – .50 = 3.50). He would therefore have to produce x amount of items before he offset his initial cost of $1000.
1000 = 3.5x
divide each side by 3.5 and you get
x = 285.71
but you know that he can’t produce .71 items, so you just go to the next whole number: 286.
The answer would be that the man has to make 286 cards before a profit can be made.
x represents the amount of cards
4.00x – 0.50x – 100 = 0
3.50x -1000 = 0
3.50x = 1000
x = 285.714285714…
285 cards
